Coalition for Digital Equality (CODE), the network that connects local and global stakeholders to collaborate and address the digital gender divide and drive sustainable economic growth in Africa, has recognised and awarded individuals in Ghana and Uganda who are building the human capital and talent pool needed to drive digital transformation and innovation in Africa.
In a virtual ceremony held today, July 21, 2021, CODE awarded eight (8) individuals; four from each country from the following categories:
- Digital Skills Champion
- Digital Inclusion Innovator
- Research and Knowledge Builder and
- Women’s Entrepreneurship and Investment Champion
The aim of the awards is to acknowledge individuals, who are enabling digital skills, innovation and knowledge to improve the lives of African women, youth, marginalised groups and communities.
Criteria for selecting winners
To select winners, the judges followed four laid down criteria which include the following:
Leadership
- Leading and creating impact
- Thought leader
- Role model paving the way for others
Innovation
- Unique solutions
- Innovative approaches
Achievement
- Contribution towards the inclusion of women within the digital economy in their community
- Number of people impacted
- Scale and reach
- Milestones achieved
Social Impact
- Positive impact on women, youth and marginalized groups and communities

In a closing remark delivered by Dr. Winfred Onyas, a principal investigator with CODE, she expressed her appreciation to the nominees for their efforts in promoting digital inclusion in their respective spaces, and also to the judges and the CODE team for working tirelessly to make the Coalition for Digital Equality awards a success.
