Mark Zuckerberg announced today ( Wednesday, June 22, 2022) that Facebook Pay is now Meta Pay.
In the post, he shares that Meta Pay is their first step towards creating a digital wallet for the Metaverse.
There will be no change to the payment platform; it will maintain its current features. You can still use it to send your friends and family members money over Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as to pay for purchases and donate to charitable causes.
However, beyond the current features, they are working on making it become a wallet for the Metaverse that lets you securely manage your identity, what you own, and how you pay, Mark mentioned in the post.
Mark envisions and hopes for a future where your metaverse experience and everything you’ve bought will be on it. He looks into the possibility of connecting with other Metaverses, so whatever you do away from Facebook Metaverse can be managed from Meta Pay.
Even though he believes this is a long way away, he claims it would “deliver much better experiences for people and larger opportunities for creators.”
