TikTok Ghana: TikTok to launch Twitch-like subscriptions

TikTok Ghana: TikTok has announced a subscription model that allows viewers to pay to support individual live streams. It’s called Live Subscription, and it will give users access to exclusive features like a subscriber-only chat, creator-specific emotes, and badges that distinguish them from non-subscribers. According to a video shared on the TikTok Live Creator page, it will begin beta on May 26th.

Some creators released videos announcing their participation in the program and the possible rewards for their fans. While the ability to use unique stickers in Livestream discussions and participate in subscriber-only chats is likely the most appealing feature for viewers, a few creators have expressed interest in having a “predictable monthly income,” as explained by TikTok.

It has been difficult in the past to make money straight from TikTok (without needing to conduct sponsorship deals). TikTok hasn’t indicated whether it will take a cut of the money or how much. According to TechCrunch, TikTok Live Subscriptions will be “comparable” to Twitch packages, which start at $4.99 a month (with tiers that go up to $24.99 a month).

One must be 18 years old or older to offer or purchase a paid subscription, according to TikTok’s announcement post, and creators can only offer subscriptions if they have at least 1,000 followers. The initiative is currently invite-only, according to the company.
