Meet Danny Manu: Ghanaian Tech Entrepreneur who built the first auto-translation earbuds

Danny Manu is a Ghanaian engineer and tech entrepreneur who built the world’s first auto-translator earbuds.

Innovators have made living on Earth much easier since their creativity has solved a slew of problems we face on a daily basis. There’s no denying that life would be a lot more challenging if we didn’t have creative ideas. This is why this feature goes to honour Danny Manu for breaking barriers and changing the narrative.

Danny Manu (Engineer and Tech Entrepreneur)

On his website, Danny describes himself as “a very ambitious, hard-working engineer who strives to develop life-changing solutions to improve people’s life”.

Those values led to him building earbuds that stand out amongst its competitors on a global scale.

Born in the United Kingdom to Ghanaian parents, Danny studied at Oxford Brookes University. From Oxford Brookes, he moved to work at Quanta Networks, a data and cloud solutions enterprise.

From Quanta Networks, he went on to MEDYBIRD, a company he established in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic to manufacture and distribute industrial and medical PPEs.

In 2014, he established MyManu. Mymanu is an innovative manufacturer and designer of smart consumer electronics that enrich people’s experience through the power of sound. From earbuds to Bluetooth speakers, Mymanu seeks to maintain an exceptionally strong commitment to research to transform yesterday’s fiction into tomorrow’s reality.

Under Mymanu’s belt is the award-winning and groundbreaking live voice translation earbuds that have revolutionized how to bridge the possibilities of AI and everyday needs.

He has a background in music and earth and was recently recognized by Google for his contributions to science, arts and culture.

Clik S enable users to converse efficiently in nearly forty languages. It also allows them to call, text, and read notifications from their devices.

MyManu, the company that makes Clik S uses its unique operating system to make all these possible. The OS even makes text-to-speech and speech-to-text possible. MyJuno is a social translation and messaging app that serves as the operating software that powers the earbuds.

Users can communicate with nearly two billion people around the world. They do not need to be connected to the internet before they can use the device.

Instead, the wireless Bluetooth earbuds can synchronize with smartphones, enabling the earbuds to learn the language being spoken whilst providing instant translations to the person listening.

With the world becoming a global village with individuals having to interact with others in different languages almost every day, these Clik S is a life-saving innovation

Financing the project

Danny Manu raised over $5,000,000 on crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

He recognized that being an ethnic minority hampered funding and investors who can help in your business. However, thanks to crowdfunding and self-financing opportunities, his dreams have become a reality.

Voluntary Support during COVID-19 Outbreak

When COVID-19 struck, the Manchester business owner innovated in order not to go out of business. He saw a business opportunity in producing PPE and other safety equipment to help protect people in the Manchester area from the pandemic.

He established Medybird to go into the production of PPEs and other safety equipment and within weeks, he supplied much needed PPE and subsequently shipped out over 15 million PPE to countries in need.

For other aspiring entrepreneurs who want to venture into the tech space, Manu said, “focus on your successes and believe in yourself.” He continued: “if you surround yourself with your accomplishments and don’t stop believing in your dreams, you’ll have a real chance.”

What the Future Holds

With Danny Manu, we cannot tell which new inventions he is working on, but from what we have seen so far from what he has produced, we can only expect well-advanced innovations that simplify our lives.
