Facility overview
As a result of increased urbanization, there is the need to meet the increased demand by expanding the current facility of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant with the establishment of the Phase II project.
The new phase of the project helps expand the waste management capacity of the plant from 600 tons to 1400 tons a day, which is a relief to the sanitation problems within the region.
The Phase II facility is a state-of-the-art treatment plant at Adjen Kotoku in the Greater-Accra region, which helps increase the existing capacity of the plant by an additional 800 tons daily.
The facility will also house research laboratories, which will be dedicated to research into the effective and e-friendly management of waste in the region.
It is intended to continue to provide a sustainable solution for managing liquid waste within Accra and its environs in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner, using a comprehensive European treatment technology.
The Phase II of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant will also be able to provide MMDAs within the region and catchment areas a safer alternative to dumpsites. By doing so, the facility will be able to meet increased demand for compost and other recycled materials as well.
About 300 new workforce will be employed by the expanded facility in addition to the 150 employees.
