MTN MoMo Month 2021 launched in Accra

MTN MoMo month 2021 has been launched on Thursday 5th August under the theme “consolidating digital payments for economic transformation.”

The launch of the ninth edition came off at MTN Ghana’s Ridge headquarters in Accra.

In her welcome address, Ruth Badu, Senior Manager: Operations and Service Delivery of Mobile Money Limited, touched on the importance of digital payment, especially in this time of the world dealing with the Covid-19 challenge. She touched on the dangers of carrying cash on one’s person to make payments for services in current times.

When he took the podium, CEO of Mobile Money Limited, Eli Hinneh, thanked the partners, including fintech platforms, banks, and agents of MoMo, as well as the media for their roles played in bringing MTN MoMo this far.

With the acceptance and growth of e-commerce in modern times, it is a given that digital payment systems will be taking centre stage going forward.

He urged all retailers to support the drive for digital transactions and make the adoption of digital payments easier in the country.

Touching on fraud, Eli Hinneh intimated that the menace has been reduced significantly through a collaborative effort by telecom players and other stakeholders — making it difficult to have sim cards without valid IDs, as well as blocking phones — turning fraud into an expensive venture to pursue.

In order to deepen the gains made so far in growing Ghana’s digital payment ecosystem, MTN MoMo has come up with new solutions — such as the MoMo business platform — that offers businesses a smarter way of processing transactions, giving them the edge over competitors.

Also, in accordance with its aim to be a convenient platform for users, MoMo can be accessed via QR code and the MoMo app — both of which are designed for people who don’t want to complete payments via the USSD method.

He declared MoMo Month 2021 duly launched after his address.

Abdul-Majeed Rufai… Senior Manager, Commercial of Mobile Money Limited outlined the activities planned for MTN MoMo Month 2021, which include a stakeholder conference – a significant avenue for influencing policy decisions.

Also, there will be community engagement to consolidate gains made so far in education meant to protect consumers against fraud. Vulnerable folk will be targeted with such programs and drives.

This year will see top-performing agents rewarded with three (3) SUVs at stake to be won, in addition to motorbikes and also security cameras to help in identifying people who visit agent’s stalls.

Merchants will not be left out with laptops and tablets to be given out to facilitate payments.

Of course, consumers cannot be forgotten either. There’s a lot of goodies in store for MoMo customers throughout the month. Users of the MoMo platform are encouraged to pay attention to the company’s social media accounts.

In 2009, MTN introduced Mobile Money into the Ghanaian financial services landscape, and in the years since, the product has proven to be an industry leader within the mobile payments sector — becoming the platform of choice for many consumers.

MoMo Month has contributed immensely to the growth of the service over the years, and with 2021 marking MTN’s 25th anniversary in Ghana, it aims to continue and consolidate gains made towards its agenda of building the largest transaction platform on the continent.
