If you’ve been receiving weekly notifications about an SMS that cost GHC 0.45 to send, you’re probably a victim of Nazara — a weird service that activated on my phone unprovoked and until recently, was taxing me for no reason. At least, that was my experience.
Being fleeced by this unsolicited service can drive you nuts if you’re a passive aggressive “don’t mess with my money” kind of person, and in this article, I’ll teach you how to unsubscribe from Nazara on the MTN Ghana network.
How I fell down the rabbit hole
I can’t remember putting myself in any position to have my airtime deducted when I’m strictly a data and voice person. I don’t deal with SMS unless it has to do with MoMo deposits, so I was surprised one day in November 2020 when I received a notification that I had subscribed to Nazara @ GHC 0.45/Week. Me?
Quickly, I tried to unsubscribe from Nazara and was assured that I’d done that successfully — as you can see in the screenshot below. But that was just a scam. Because the weekly deductions started not long after that, but, since I believed that I had properly done the needful to unsubscribe from Nazara, it never occurred to me that it was the culprit.
How to unsubscribe from Nazara
If you’re on MTN Ghana network, dial *175# to manage your subscriptions. You can choose to cancel all subscriptions or cancel individual ones. In my case, all I had going on for me was Nazara, so, my decision was easy to make.
Now I’m free and no longer have to deal with any unsanctioned deductions from my airtime. Just dial *175# and be free.
