Internet pornography access by people, especially children, has become a canker in the country. The CEO of the Concerned Voters’ Movement, Mr Razak Kojo Opoku, has therefore proposed the enactment of a law to restrict children’s access to these.
The infiltration of mobile and tablet devices has made it easy to access such adult contents. While others use them for various studies, others use them to watch pornography via the internet. Mr Razak Kojo Opoku said there is a need for a concerted effort by parents and the government to curb the growing trend of children watching pornography on the internet.
In an interview with the GNA, he admitted that the internet has become an integral part of our society with both positive and negative implications. “In my candid view, this needs a collective effort between parents and the Government to stem unguarded access to the internet (pornographic materials) by our future generation,” he said.
Mr Razak Kojo Opoku added: “The internet has been good, maintaining our children in virtual schooling and online classes, which was an opportunity for the children who had unlimited and uncontrollable access to the internet.
“Nobody regulates or monitors what they watch on their smartphones. The content on the internet is shaping their lives into good or bad. In the United States, United Kingdom, Arab Countries, and others, the Government has a law on the Regulation of pornography and child pornography on the Internet.”
Internet pornography could be cited as one reason for the many indecent sexual acts among children who would want to practice what they watch. In a country where no one cares about anything, will a law intended to curb internet pornography and its access by children do the trick? In the UK, as cited by Mr Razak, one cannot access pornography on the internet without verifying one’s age.
