According to the Best Global Brands list announced by the global consulting firm Interbrand on October 20 2021, Samsung ranked fifth with a brand value of USD 74.6 billion, a 20% increase compared to last year.
On the back of its strong financial performance, which has recovered to reach pre-pandemic levels, the company’s brand value surged by 20% this year, twice the average brand value growth rate among the top 100 brands in 2021.
Since entering the top five for the first time last year, Samsung has maintained its position for two consecutive years with its largest increase in brand value since 2013.
According to Interbrand, major factors that played a critical role in Samsung’s growth include:
Its transition to a customer-centric management system, highlighted by the establishment of a new CX (customer experience) team dedicated to prioritising customer experience and values
Its ongoing efforts for sustainable development, including various campaigns guided by its CSR vision, ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People,’ as well as company-wide initiatives that promote sustainability, such as the use of eco-packaging for TVs and the Galaxy Upcycling programme
The launches of innovative products including the Galaxy Z Foldable series, Neo QLEDs, and the Bespoke line-up of home appliances.
Leading the development of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, automotive, and robotics through consistent investment.
“It is very encouraging to see Samsung reach the top five in the world last year and then achieve enormous double-digit growth this year—our biggest leap in brand value since 2013,” Lucas Lee, MD of Samsung Ghana. “We promise to leverage our customer-centric management model to keep listening to our customers. This is how we will repay the massive support we have received from customers in Ghana and around the globe.”
Interbrand evaluates businesses’ brand value based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple factors including financial performance, brand influence on purchase, and brand competitiveness.
Meanwhile, on October 12, Samsung was also ranked No.1 by Forbes as the World’s Best Employers 2021 for the second consecutive year. As a global organization with employees and businesses around the world, Samsung has, once again, been chosen as the number one employer.
Each year, Forbes surveys around 150,000 employees from 58 countries working for businesses with operations in multiple nations or regions, and this year asked respondents to rank their satisfaction with their employers’ COVID-19 responses and score their employers on image, economic footprint, talent development, gender equality and social responsibility.

Lately, almost everyone may have heard of the word Metaverse used in a way or another. The word may sound strange or seem like something abstract, but it is not that far away from us or our reality as we know it. This post will delve into it and try to explain it in its basic terms and what it should mean to us.
Metaverse means?
Metaverse is a combination of two words; Meta which means “after” or “beyond”, and Verse, derived from the wordi “Universe”. A metaverse means beyond the universe or reality. Investopedia describes a metaverse as a digital reality that combines aspects of social media, online gaming, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and cryptocurrencies to allow users to interact virtually.
When technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are merged, a shared virtual environment is created that users may access over the internet. Some people also use the term metaverse to refer to virtual environments like games in which players may roam around and interact with other players.
Simply described, it is the fusion of virtually improved physical reality with physically persistent virtual space, including all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the Internet.
Why is it suddenly a big thing?
Lately, there is a lot of noise about metaverse especially among investors and major tech companies because post-COVID-19 showed how much easier things will be when it becomes a reality.
As more individuals worked from home and went to school online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in the metaverse grew. Even in a post-COVID world, there are fears that the metaverse will make it even simpler for individuals to spend time apart.
In addition, current advances in virtual reality games and networking show the technology is available for it to happen.
No one wants to be left behind if it turns out to be the internet’s future. There is also a sense that, for the first time, the technology is almost there, with advances in virtual reality games and networking approaching what is needed.
The Investors
A number of people and tech companies have expressed interest in the field and have even gone ahead to start making investments to research more about the technology. From firms with virtual reality products to social networking platforms, the interest in merging the virtual augmented and digital realities is keenly competed for by many.
Roblox, Amazon, DoorDash, Microsoft and Robinhood are a few companies that have pitched in money to invest in metaverse development and technologies. Microsoft as well has suggested and given hints about exploring the ecosystem.
Facebook and Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, has in recent times expressed his interest in the metaverse, especially after Oculus joined the number of firms he owns. Oculus is a virtual reality technology firm.
Mark Zuckerberg
With the interconnectivity of his various platform: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, he hinted that the next phase for him is to give customers more than just the smooth sail between the apps. He wants to create virtual environments that he believes will change the human experience.
In August, Mark Zuckerberg on a CBS show demonstrated how to use the Oculus Quest 2 headset to have a meeting with others in a virtual workspace with live avatars of one another. The leader of Facebook – now Meta, is hoping to change the phase of human interaction through technology through the use of the metaverse.
The investments of Zuckerberg have gone into billions of dollars in the creation of this metaverse. With the rebranding to be called Meta, the chairman and CEO of Meta has solidified his position as the leading investor in the metaverse, and hopefully soon, we shall see what he speaks about become a reality.
Microsoft
One of the world’s leaders in technology, Microsoft, has also started putting efforts into branching into the metaverse. Its product, Microsoft Mesh leads the way in this capacity.
Mesh is a revolutionary mixed-reality platform that enables individuals in various physical places to participate in interactive and shared holographic experiences on a variety of devices, including VR headsets, mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and any Mesh-enabled software.
The idea is to make clients feel as if they are in the same room with someone who is sharing material or there with others even if they are not physically present by using any gadget.
People will be able to express themselves as avatars in shared virtual experiences using Mesh, and then project themselves as their most lifelike selves over time.
Microsoft plans to create a platform that allows users to digitally trace and monitor everything that happens in a real-world setting such as warehouses, factories, and shops.
After metaverse, what next?
The coming of the metaverse means a 180-degree transformation of how we interact and share information with one another. In that space, one would just need a pair of digital glasses to zoom right into a world where they can work, shop, have fun, and possibly live without having to move around much.
If the movie, Matrix, is anything to go by, we will transcend what we know currently as reality into a different realm where what is physical is only a thought away. Though many are yet to talk about the impact on the human brain and its adverse effects, the advantages of a metaverse seem to outweigh many other options.

Irvine Partners, a multi-national public relations and integrated marketing agency, has been awarded the Spotify communications account in Sub-Saharan Africa. They commenced work last month, heading up all PR activities in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Spotify is the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service, with a community of more than 356 million monthly active users and 158 million Premium subscribers.
With a presence in 178 markets, and more than 70 million tracks (including 2.6 million podcast titles), it has transformed the way people access and enjoy music and podcasts.
Spotify is therefore well placed to provide relevant commentary on music and audio streaming, with focus on the African continent.
Michelle Atagana, Head of Communications and Public Relations for Sub-Saharan Africa, says that championing new genre discovery by being a leading partner for creators is a big focus for the brand.
“With Irvine Partners on board as our communications agency, we look forward to strengthening our positioning and commitment to the African market. Music, creativity, and storytelling is a great part of African culture, and we’re focusing on articulating Spotify’s offering for listeners and creators across the continent,” says Atagana.
There has been exponential growth in interest in African music, particularly Afrobeats, Amapiano and Gengetone, and Spotify aims to amplify artists from the continent.
Earlier this year, Spotify Africa introduced their EQUAL Artist Programme — their latest commitment to fostering equity for women in music globally. DBN Gogo, a DJ based in South Africa, was October’s Artist of the Month.
Previous Artists of the Month include Nigerian star Tiwa Savage and Kenya’s Ssaru wa Manyaru.
“Film does well on our continent, as does arts and culture, and with the rise of self-publishing artists, we’re continually introduced to new talent in our own backyard.
There is massive potential for Africa’s musicians and creatives, and we believe that Spotify Africa is well placed to be part of a movement that is calling on decision-makers and audiences to open up the industry and to diversify it with multi-layered talent and artistry.
We’re looking forward to being part of this new era in entertainment with Spotify,” says Irvine Partners CEO, Rachel Irvine.
The agency will handle all media enquiries around Spotify in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania which may be directed to spotifypr@irvinepartners.co.za.

Are you worn out from Instagram or do you need to just take a break? Every now and then, it is advisable to take “social sabbaths” – a time to unplug from social media and get your thoughts and life together.
Maybe you are at that point where you need an Instagram break, here is how to deactivate Instagram account.
Instagram gives you the option to either temporarily or permanently delete your account.
It is one of the most popular social media apps known mainly for sharing pictures with loved ones. Being a large social media platform, fake news spread faster as well as cyberbullying through mean comments or internet trolls. Deactivating your Instagram account might not just be the “terrible” thing to do in life.
How to temporarily deactivate your Instagram account
Maybe you need a few weeks or months away from Instagram, Instagram gives you the option to deactivate your account temporarily. Here is how to temporarily deactivate your Instagram account.
Scroll down the page and click onTemporarily disable my accountat the bottom right corner of the page.
4. Select an option from the drop-down menu next to Why are you disabling your account? and re-enter your password. Kindly note that the option to disable your account will only appear after you’ve selected a reason and entered your password.
5. Click onTemporarily Disable Account
To reactivate your account, you can log in back with the same username and password whenever you are ready to.
You can deactivate temporarily for as long as you like and everything will remain exactly how you left off.
Your account will disappear on the platform and it means that users will not be able to find and unfollow you so your followers remain intact.
How to deactivate Instagram account permanently
Once you make up your mind to permanently delete your Instagram account, it is important to note that you will lose all your data and you cannot sign up again with the same username.
Also, note that you cannot reactivate a deleted account unless you sign up again on the platform as a new user.
Login to Instagram from your web browser; make sure you are logged into the account you want to delete.
Confirm the account you want to delete and choose the reason for wanting to delete your account. The option to permanently delete your account will only show after you choose a reason for deletion.
Click on delete
Due to the amount of data you have on Instagram, it takes a number of days for your account to be completely deleted.
Both processes require you to use your browser as at the time of writing, Instagram does not allow you to delete your account from within the mobile application.
After 30 days of your account deletion request, your account and all your information will be permanently deleted, and you won’t be able to retrieve your information.
During those 30 days, the content remains subject to Instagram’s Terms of Use and Data Policy and is not accessible to other people using Instagram (Source: IG Help Center)
Although Instagram is one of the most popular and pleasing social media platforms, just like some good things come to an end, sometimes a temporal disable or permanent deletion can be of help depending on what you seek to achieve.
We hope this guide on how to delete Instagram account has helped.
